- Chuck Close is an American artist known for his large-scale portraits composed of intricate patterns of colored shapes. He is considered one of the leading figures of the Photorealist movement, which emerged in the 1960s and sought to create highly detailed, lifelike images using photography as a reference. Close's artistic process often involves gridding photographs and meticulously recreating them on canvas or other surfaces. Despite facing physical challenges due to a spinal artery collapse in 1988, Close continues to create art, pushing the boundaries of portraiture and perception.
